Building a cleaner future: we use green energy
In 2022 alone, Vilniaus laidojimo namai, by choosing to use green energy, reduced CO₂ (carbon dioxide) emissions by 5,527 kg and thus contributed to environmental protection and the creation of a cleaner future through their sustainable approach and actions. This amount of saved emissions is equivalent to 8 car trips from Vilnius to Lisbon. We are proud that through our actions we can help create a healthier future for all of us.
We responsibly assess the impact we have on our environment, which is why we continuously look for ways to ensure the sustainable implementation of all funeral home processes and services. In all of our buildings, we use renewable energy, energy-saving and efficient LED lighting, and we place special emphasis on raising employee awareness regarding electricity conservation. We also share our positive experience with partners, families, and the wider community.
Protecting Nature and Health
Green energy is produced from various renewable sources — wind, solar, and water. The electricity generated in this way is environmentally friendly and does not contribute to accelerating climate change caused by human and industrial activity. The main advantage of green electricity is that its production releases significantly fewer harmful substances into the atmosphere compared to electricity generated from coal, oil, or other non-renewable energy sources. Unlike non-renewable energy, green energy does not emit greenhouse gases or increase carbon dioxide levels, which have a particularly significant impact on the climate — from stronger and more frequent storms to recurring droughts, rising sea levels, and other negative consequences. Due to its minimal environmental impact, green energy plays an important role in combating global warming.
Pollution affects everyone: one Harvard University study estimated that the lifecycle costs of coal and its impact on public health amount to $74.6 billion annually. This equals 4.36 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity generated — approximately one-third of the average residential electricity rate in the United States.
Air and water pollution caused by non-renewable energy sources such as coal and natural gas is associated with respiratory disorders, neurological damage, heart attacks, increased cancer risk, premature death, and many other serious health problems. Most of these negative health and climate impacts result from air and water pollution generated by non-renewable energy production.
In order to live in a more environmentally friendly world today and contribute to creating a healthier future for all of us, Vilniaus laidojimo namai use renewable energy in all of their buildings in Vilnius. Our funeral halls and other premises are illuminated with electricity generated from sustainable green energy sources. Through our responsible approach, we inspire our employees and partners to choose a more sustainable lifestyle, as the use of green energy is one of the ways we can help ensure that we live in a cleaner and more beautiful world in the future.
